How to Perform Umrah?

When you reach the prescribed Miqat, make ghusl (which means shower or fully washing the whole body), use perfume if available, and then put on the two-piece garment of Ihram, which should be made of white cloth. This applies to men only.

Women also make ghusl, but they do not use make up or perfume, and they may wear any clothes they have available, as long as they are loose fitting and do not display their adornments; women should be completely covered except for their face and hands.
The muslim must then make their intention to perform Umrah and says :
“Labbayka Allahumma Labbayk. Labbayka la shareeka laka Labbayk. innalhamda wanni-mata laka wal-mulk. La shareeka lak”
(Here I am at your service. O Lord, here I am. Here I am. No partner do You have. Here I am, truly, the praise and the favor is Yours, and the dominion.
No partner do You have.)

Men should utter this aloud while women should say it silently. Repeat this talbiyah frequently, and engage in the praise of Allah, in supplications for forgiveness, and in the enjoining of what is good and forbidding of what is evil.

When you reach Makkah, you will start with Tawaf (making seven circuits around the Ka’bah), beginning at the Black Stone
with takbir ( utterances of “Allahu Akbar” ) and ending each circuit at the same place. While making your Tawaf you may praise Allah and make supplications to Him in any words you please. It is preferable to end each circuit with the following words:
(Our Lord, give us good in this world and good in the Hereafter and save us from the punishment of the Fire, enter us into paradise with the righteous,
O Lord of the worlds)

After completing the seventh circuit

Pray two rak’as behind the Station of Ibraheem (Maqam Ibraheem) if it is possible, even if you are far from it. Otherwise, pray any other place within the Sacred Mosque.

After completing your Tawaf around the Kabaa and once you have prayed your two rak’as, you now make the intention for Sa’ee between Safa and Marwah seven rounds. You will begin your first round of Sa’ee at Safa, and end at Marwah, reading in every round:
“Inna alSafa wal Marwata min sha’aer Allah, faman hajj albeita aw e’tamara fala junaha aleihi an yattawafa bihima, wa man tatawa’a kheiran fa inna Allah shakir aleem”
(Indeed, as-Safa and al-Marwah are among the symbols of Allah . So whoever makes Hajj to the House or performs Umrah – there is no blame upon him for walking between them. And whoever volunteers good – then indeed, Allah is appreciative and Knowing)

Then you turn towards the Qibla and you say:
Then you raise your hands and supplicate Him in your own words. Repeat this three times. Then start your Sa’ee to Marwah.

When the valley drops (between the two green flags), men jog (but women do not) and say:
then continue walking.

When you reach Marwah, praise Allah and do as you did at Safa, repeating your supplications three times. Then supplicate Him in your own words, or recite portions of the Qur’an.

Upon completion of Sa’ee, if you were Muhrim to pursue Umrah only then you must shave or shorten your hair (If you complete Umrah close to the day of Arafaa, then you must shorten your hair and leave shaving for hajj). Women shorten their hair only.

After this, the prohibitions pertaining to the state of Ihram are lifted and you may now resume your normal life.
